I think I have been spoiled with my 2.5 year old, Ryan. Like his mama, he loooooves to sleep and always has. From 3.5 months old, he was sleeping through the night and even his regressions only lasted a week or 2. I swear, he is the only toddler I’ve ever met that will exclaim 20 minutes before bedtime “I tired, mommy. I go night night?” Um…sure!
Ava is 4 months now and her spunky personality is emerging already. I thought I was the champion of all parents at 5 weeks old when she started sleeping 8:30pm-5am with a dream feed (where she will eat while sleeping) at 11pm. About a month and a half ago, she started waking every 2 hours ready to party and hasn’t looked back since. I am always one who is up for a good party but patting and shushing my baby at 3am isn’t exactly my idea of a fun time! Last night she was up every 45 minutes for about 5 hours and after that she woke every 2 hours. I am breastfeeding so part of me thinks it is that she realizes that she gets comfort from me and wants that when she wakes but in reality, I have no clue what is going on.
I am currently reading “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child” by Dr. Weissbluth so I am hoping to get some tips and sleep. In the meantime, I will just enjoy the nighttime snuggles and peacefulness of my sweet girl next to me because I know that before I know it, my kids won’t want my comfort in the middle of the night and I will miss it.
Did you have a challenging sleeper? What worked for you and your child?
