Welcome back to (Home) Transformation Tuesday!  In Part 1, we left off with my husband and I returning from a relaxing kid-free vacation only to receive a call from our realtor that would change the direction of our life and turn things upside down for awhile. Today let’s talk about the craziness that ensued after that call and set the groundwork for 2 years of renovations…

After  7 glorious kid free days in the Caribbean, our realtor called us the following Tuesday and told me casually, I have a home that is not yet listed- an expanded cape with a two car garage in the exact neighborhood you mentioned when we met a few months ago.  Here is the address if you want to drive by- let me know if you want to see it.  I mentioned it to Alex thinking he would tell me I was crazy since a new home was years off but he agreed to see it.  We did a drive by and Alex told me to call our realtor and set up a showing (Is this real life!?!).

Could this be our forever home?!?

We ended up seeing the house twice.  It was livable but definitely not our taste- lots of brass,  a choppy floor plan and those classic cape sloped ceilings upstairs.  Still, we saw potential-a master bedroom could go over the garage and the choppy floorplan downstairs could be re-worked- and the location was amazing. After what our realtor said was a very well attended open house, we decided to put in an offer.

Liveable but NOT our taste was the theme…

Since our realtor was also the listing agent, we had to put in our offer with another Realtor but we decided to go above asking, write a letter to the owners about how much we loved the home and cross our fingers!  There were 3 other offers and it was a tense 24 hours but in the end WE GOT IT!  That is the super cliff notes version…let’s just say LOTS of wine was consumed during the days we were in limbo. We were so excited but panic set in that we had to sell our old home!

The Family room was a major reno when we first moved it- we vaulted the ceilings and it made SUCH a difference!

Selling your home when you weren’t expecting to do so is a bit crazy- we decluttered, had a stager come in and move around furniture and re-finished some flooring all in a matter of weeks.  However, the home looked awesome (better then when we were living there with no intentions of moving) and we had tons of interest!

The stager made the flow of the living room look SO much better!
Entryway- while living there, we had the shelves custom made, had new tile floor put in and a new front door!
Sigh…I *loved* our backyard and privacy of the corner lot
After the first weekend on the market, we had 3 offers and a slight bidding war! People loved our home as much as we did and after “best and final offers” we were under contract within 10 days!
Ava’s 2nd Birthday party….2 days before moving day!
The final pic in front of the home where our family began!
Bittersweet does not even describe it- I was a mess of emotions

Plain and simple, moving with kids kind of stinks but we survived (read my “Moving with Kids Survival Tips blog post HERE)!  We moved in our new home on a very rainy Friday in May and got somewhat settled in knowing that things would drastically change in a few months.

Stay tuned next week where we start the actual renovation journey!
